Apple’s AirPods have been a popular accessory since they were released in late 2016. The design of the earbuds and charging case is sleek and minimalist, and the sound quality is excellent.

What Does “AirPods Flashing Orange” Mean?

When you see the orange flashing light on your AirPods, it means that there’s something wrong and one of them needs to be repaired by Apple due to hardware malfunctions. It also means that only one earbud is receiving power and producing sound.

Why My Airpods Flashing Orange?

Below are a few reasons why your Airpods are flashing orange;

1. Battery Level Is Low

If this is the case, you need to charge your AirPods by plugging them into any power source for about 20 minutes or so.

As soon as it starts charging, it will stop flashing orange and turn white. If the issue persists after charging, then proceed to the next reason.

2. Hardware Malfunctions

This is the main reason why the AirPods are flashing orange. If this is the case, then you need to take them to your nearest Apple Store or an authorized service center and have them replaced.

It might also be a good idea to check if they are still under warranty to qualify for a free replacement.

3. One Earbud Is Not Paired Properly

If this is the case, then make sure you unpair the Airpods from your iPhone and try it again.

4. AirPods Are Not Updated With Latest Software Version

If this is the case, then make sure you update the Airpods and see if it still flashes orange.

Although less common, replacing the charging case battery is also one of the reasons why they flash orange.

How To Fix Airpods Flashing Orange?

Below are some simple tips on how to fix AirPods flashing orange.

1. Check The Airpods Connection

If your AirPods flash orange only when they are near the phone, then try un-pairing them from the iPhone and pair them again.

2.  Battery Has Enough Charge

If they flash orange and you see a red light instead of white, it means that the battery is very low.

Plug them into the case to charge for about 20 minutes, then try turning them on again by pressing and holding the small circle located on the back of the AirPods charging case.

If they still flash orange, then go to step 3 below.

3. Check That They Are Connected

If you can see a white light, then press and hold the small circle located on the back of the charging case until you see a pop-up window with connected devices.

If it says “Connected” next to the iPhone, then they are connected properly.

If it says “Not Connected”, then disconnect and reconnect them again.

4.  Charge The Airpods Until The LED Starts Flashing White

If the AirPods flashes orange after disconnecting them, then they are experiencing some issue with low battery. To solve this problem, make sure that you charge the AirPods until the LED starts flashing white before the battery is completely drained.

5. Update The Airpods

If you find that your AirPods are turning off automatically when connected to your iPhone or it says “pairing unsuccessful” in the status bar, then update them by using the latest version of Airpods software.

If you don’t have an internet connection on your iPhone, then connect to a Wi-Fi network to download and install the latest version of the Airpods software.

6. Make Sure To Clean Them Thoroughly

Sometimes they can flash orange due to dusty components inside the charging case, so it is advisable to take them apart and clean every single part thoroughly using a dry cloth or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.

When you are done cleaning, plug back the battery and try turning them on again by pressing and holding the small circle located on the back of the AirPods charging case.

7. Charge Your IPhone As Well If Using After A Long Time

If they flash orange when you connect them near an iOS device that has not been paired with them before or was connected to another device recently, then there might be some sort of issue with its Bluetooth components.

Try connecting them first on a different iOS device or connect the Airpods first on your iPhone before starting any troubleshooting.

8. Replacing The Charging Case Battery

If you have tried a lot of steps and it still doesn’t solve the problem, then you should replace your AirPods battery.

9. If All Else Fails, Then Return Them To Apple

If none of these fixes work for you, then I would advise returning them back to where you bought them from or contacting Apple support for further assistance on this matter.
