Are you seeing this message “Nintendo wifi connection service for this software has been discontinued. Visit support.nintendo.com for a list of current Nintendo wifi connection-compatible software.”?
It could be that you are seeing this message whenever you are trying to connect to the service.
In this article, we will be discussing why that is happening.
Nintendo Wifi Connection Service For This Software Has Been Discontinued
Nintendo Wifi connection service that provided online support to many Nintendo DS, Wii and Nintendo DSi software titles was discontinued on May 20, 2014.
However, even though the online service has been discontinued you can still play games on these platforms in Offline mode.

After May 20, 2014, if you try to connect to online service through these platforms it will inevitably show you the pop-up message, “Nintendo wifi connection service for this software has been discontinued. Visit support.nintendo.com for a list of current Nintendo wifi connection-compatible software.”
You will not be able to play the games online or access Leaderboards or tournament data.
Add-on content or item exchanges between players will also not be possible anymore.
This discontinuation only impacts the Nintendo Wifi connection service and as such other online functionality of the games are not impacted.
For example, Wii Shop Channel, the Nintendo DSi Shop and video-on-demand services are not affected at all.
