Do you enjoy discord stickers and carry a bunch of them around with you? Is Discord blocking you from uploading stickers?
When you try to add your asset to the library, you may get an “Invalid Asset” error. Trying to load another sticker had the same result.
Don’t Worry!
We’re both in the same boat.
I also received this problem with a hand full of stickers.
I eventually found the solution after spending several hours researching it.
Discord is an exciting platform that differs from any other chatting application.
It is popular because of its appealing interface and aesthetics.
In this article, I am sharing my experience in resolving the Invalid Asset error, which will help to share your stickers without struggling.
What Is Discord Sticker Invalid Asset Error?
The “Invalid asset” error usually occurs when the file format is invalid, and the size of files exceeds the limit. It means Discord stops the file from uploading to the server.
Discord displays an “Invalid Asset Error” because the Discord server does not accept the sticker uploaded by the user.
Discord also has its file size and supported file format like any other platform. Everyone must follow it.
The appearance of continuous error may result in banning your account as the bot misunderstands that it is an unusual activity.
Before uploading any sticker, please go through the Discord Sticker file requirement:
- The file size must be less than or equal to 523kb.
- Dimension of the file should be 320px * 320px.
- The file extension must be in PNG or APNG format.
- Frame limit of the APNG file is 60 FPS.
- Sticker file does not support GIF format.
Here are the crucial hacks to resolve the Discord Sticker Invalid asset error.
How To Fix Discord Sticker Invalid Asset Error?
As we already discussed above, the error occurs because it doesn’t meet the required format of Discord. Here is the better way to Fix “Sticker Invalid Asset”.
Things to be kept In mind while creating a sticker, recommended by Discord
1. Background Should Be Transparent
Though the transparency is not mandatory, Discord works well on the transparent sticker than the one with the background.
If the file matches all the requirements, Still has an “invalid asset” error, try uploading the file without the backdrop. It will work in a better way.
You can use online tools as well.
I prefer using Remove.bg to remove the background of any image.
- Go to google Type “remove.bg” and click on the link.
- “Upload” your file, click “remove background” and download the file.
Click here to access the link : https://www.remove.bg/upload
Now the file is ready to use. Check the size before you post it.
2. Sizing Your Stickers
Yes. You got it right.
Your file size should not exceed 512 kb; the dimensions should be exactly 320 * 320 px.
This scaling helps your sticker look crisper on displays.
Check the file properties and Resize them. You can resize the file using any online tools or software.
I prefer to use Ezgif.com to optimise the file size.
- Go to ezgif.com and click “PNG Optimizer” in the on Tab
- Select “Choose file” and upload your sticker on ezgif.com
- Click “upload” and Optimise the size by clicking “Optimize PNG” button on ezgif.com
- Click “Save” icon from the “optimized image” section.
Click here to access the link : https://ezgif.com/
You can use any tool online.
For APNG files, I prefer using Aspose tool.
You can check the link below:

3. File Rendering Issue
Discord doesn’t recognize the file if it is not rendered correctly. As a result, you cannot upload the file on Discord.
Instead of uploading a file through the chat bar —> Upload section, use the following alternative method:
- Got to “server settings“
- Click “stickers and upload” now.
- Upload your sticker , preview it and send it on chat from discord server
4. Converting Your File
As we all know, the file type should be PNG or APNG.
You know, sometimes even the PNG file doesn’t work. But converting the PNG file to a PNG file itself works fine.
It might look stupid but let me explain in detail.
Here is an example.
Imagine downloading a JPEG image from the web and saving it as a PNG file. So the file type matches the discord file type.
When you open the downloaded image, it works fine, and you confirm that the file size is less than 523 kb.
So you are confident to upload the file on Discord. But What if Discord refuses to accept the file though the sticker fulfil all the requirements?
Here the trick lies.
The original file is JPEG; although you changed the extension, Discord still considers it a PNG file.
So what can we do here?
Instead of changing the extension, convert it.
- Go to “Google search”, and type “JPEG to PNG” converter.
- You will get a list of the online tool. Select one. For example, here, I select Cloudconvert.
- Upload your file and set the file size as “512 * 512″.
- Select “JPEG to PNG” and click “convert” on cloudconvert.
- Download the converted PNG file file from cloudconvert.
- Upload it on Discord.
Access the cloudconvert link here : https://cloudconvert.com/jpeg-to-png
Hurray! Now the file is uploaded successfully to Discord without any error.
5. Check Your Internet Connection
Last but not least.
It is one of the primary reasons for most of the errors, not only the Discord Sticker Invalid asset error.
So make sure your internet connection is stable and working fine.
You can check it by switching to any other connection if you have one. If you use a cable connection, try changing the mobile network.
Yeah! That’s all about the fix.
FAQ:
1. What Is The Difference Between PNG And APNG?
PNG is a static file that compresses images in a specific way to avoid loss in quality. APNG is an animated version of PNG.
2. Why Do I Need To Use The Exact Dimension Of 320*320?
Because the stickers on the desktop render at 160*160. That is why Discord recommends using the exact dimension.
3. What Is The Difference Between APNG And GIF?
APNG and GIF are both animated file types. The difference is APNG has more clarity than the GIF file. That’s why Discord prefers APNG on stickers.
