The Community Manager at Blizzard clarified that users who bought these editions should use the same account to host couch co-op sessions during the Early Access period.
This allows guest players to join and participate in the game.
Any accounts that didn’t directly purchase the Deluxe or Ultimate edition on the console won’t be able to play during Early Access unless they join as a second player with the account that made the original purchase.
How To Fix Diablo 4 Game Share Not Working
Step 1: Setting Up Both Accounts On The Same Console
The first step to resolving the Diablo 4 game share issue is to ensure that the account that originally purchased the game and the account you intend to share with are both set up on the same console.
Step 2: Initiating The Game On The Purchaser’s Account
Next, log into the account that purchased the Deluxe or Ultimate edition of Diablo 4. Begin the game from this account.
This action sets the stage for the second account to join in.
Step 3: Creating A New Character And Inviting Player 2
If an existing character is already active on this account, create a new one. After the creation of this new character, switch on the second controller and log into the second account—the one intended for game sharing.
If done right, you should receive a notification stating that Player 2 (the second account) can join the game once Player 1 (the original purchaser) starts playing.
Step 4: Starting The Game And Joining With Player 2
With the new character, start playing the game on the account that made the initial purchase.
Once the game has started, use the second controller (the one logged into the shared account) to join the game as Player 2.
Step 5: Exiting The Game With Player 1
Once Player 2 has successfully joined the game, you can exit the game on the first controller, which is logged into the account that made the original purchase.
Surprisingly, this allows Player 2 (the shared account) to continue playing, thus bypassing the game share issue.
Although it’s not a perfect solution, this workaround seems to be the most effective way to navigate around the game share issue for Diablo 4’s early access period.
