Overwatch 2 has better ultrawide support than Overwatch 1.
When you have your Aspect Ratio set to 21:9 you get more FOV than you do at 16:9.
In the photos, 16:9 is the smaller image, 21:9 is the larger image, and the black bars represent what 32:9 would be.
Overwatch 1 just cropped the image, so if you had your aspect ratio set to 32:9, you’d lose half your vertical FOV, and gain no horizontal FOV.
It could still be improved by allowing any aspect ratio, not just 16:9, 16:10, and 21:9. Also, a setting for limiting the HUD to 16:9 would be nice as well.
Limiting HUD to 16:9 is great for streaming/recording, since you could crop the image in OBS, so you can play at 21:9 but stream at 16:9 without any letterboxing/distortion/missing HUD.
Are you playing Overwatch 2 on PC or a console like PS4, PS5, or Xbox?
Console users of Overwatch 2 have few options they can adjust, while PC players may change how their game appears to enhance performance.
However, this does not imply that console users must use the standard layouts.
Your sensitivity settings and other parameters can still be changed.
You can consistently beat your opponents if you optimize your settings.
It’s hard to name a set of settings as the finest since they might depend on personal choice, but top players seem to have comparable layouts, suggesting that depending on their preferences, there could be a sweet spot you can locate for any setup.
The players Rascal and Super from the Overwatch 2 League served as inspiration for the settings below.
But because you can only improve these settings with your own tweaks, don’t be afraid to fiddle around and try out other numbers.
Other Players Comments Regarding Overwatch 2 21:9, 32:9, Ultrawide
“If you set the resolution to 5120×1440, and set the aspect ratio to 21:9 or 16:9, you get the black bars shown in the images, and you don’t have to change resolution every time you tab in/out of overwatch”
“here is only 1 240hz ultrawide, and it’s the Samsung Odyssey G9, which is not flat and it’s a VA. It’s also hilariously broken with issues across all models and Samsung’s support is absolutely atrocious. The Alienware QD-OLED is apparently pretty close to 240hz levels of motion clarity despite being 175hz. It’s also not flat (but it’s much flatter than the G9)”
“I am interested in purchasing Overwatch 2 despite all of that, but I need a 31:9 aspect ratio. In 2021, ultrawide (21:9) and super ultrawide (31:9) will effectively be standard gaming monitors. Build the game around that, rather than just using the “unfair advantage” excuse or I am bailing altogether. Would I tolerate 21:9? -yes, but as your consumer I ideally want 31:9 and would be critical of failure to implement it.”
