The historic England county of Yorkshire is celebrated on August 1 each year as Yorkshire Day.
The Yorkshire Ridings Society hailed it as “a protest movement against the local government re-organization of 1974” when it first occurred in Beverley in 1975.
The notion and practice of preserving a place’s traditions and culture at a period of turmoil is central to Yorkshire Day celebration.
Yorkshire residents celebrate the unique day of the ancient county with a variety of activities and celebrations. The Yorkshire Ridings Society first observed the day in 1975.
Yorkshire Day is a chance to advertise the area and highlight all the county has to offer, including the Yorkshire Tea and the area’s historical landmarks.
