Baldur’s Gate 3 is a highly anticipated role-playing game that has been in development for years. The game has received critical acclaim for its immersive gameplay, engaging storyline, and stunning graphics.

However, some players have reported experiencing lag and performance issues in Act 3 of the game, particularly on PS5 and PC. If you’re one of those players, don’t worry!

In this blog post, we’ll provide you with some tips and tricks on how to fix Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 3 lagging on PS5 and PC.

How To Fix Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 3 Lagging On PS5 And PC

How to Fix Baldurs Gate 3 Act 3 lagging on PS5 and PC

1. Update Your Graphics Card Drivers

One of the most common causes of performance issues in games is outdated graphics card drivers.

To update graphics card drivers follow these steps:

  • Go to the website of your graphics card manufacturer (e.g. NVIDIA, AMD, Intel).
  • Search for the latest drivers for your graphics card model.
  • Download and install the drivers.
  • Restart your computer.

2. Lower Graphics Settings

If updating your drivers doesn’t work, try lowering the graphics settings in the game. To do this:

  • Launch Baldur’s Gate 3.
  • Click on the Options menu.
  • Click on the Graphics tab.
  • Lower the settings for Texture Quality, Shadow Quality, and other graphics options.
  • Click on Apply and then OK.

3. Use Script Extender Console To Resolve Delay Issue (PC Only)

Step 1: Install and set up script extender console

  • Download the script extender by going to https://github.com/Norbyte/bg3se/releases.
  • Click on “BG3SE-Updater-with-Console.zip” to download it.
  • If you’re using Steam, right-click on Baldur’s Gate 3 and select Properties.
  • Click on “Local Files” and then “Browse”.
  • Navigate to the “bin” folder.
  • Copy the downloaded files, DWrite.dll and ScriptExtenderSettings.json, into the “bin” folder.
  • If you already have DWrite.dll from installed mods, you only need ScriptExtenderSettings.json.
  • If you’re using GOG, find where your game is installed and follow the same steps.
  • Start Baldur’s Gate 3.

Step 2: Input the command:

  • Load into your save in Baldur’s Gate 3.
  • Open the console by typing anything into it (for example, any random letter or number) and pressing enter.
  • Input the following command and press enter: _D(Osi.DB_InternScene_AllowDisturbanceForScene(nil,nil))
  • Wait for the light blue text to appear. If there is a lot of text (takes more than 5 seconds to scroll through), this fix should work for you. If not, this may be a different issue.

Step 3: Input the code

  • In the console, type –[[ (two dashes and two opening square brackets) and press enter. Your console should say “S–>>” at the bottom left.
  • Copy and paste the following code into the console and press enter:

Table = {} for g,v in ipairs(Osi.DB_InternScene_AllowDisturbanceForScene(nil,nil)) do table.insert(Table,v[2]) end from = 1 up_to = 200 for k = 1,50,1 do for i = #Table,1,-1 do for j=from,up_to,1 do Osi.DB_InternScene_AllowDisturbanceForScene(j,Table[i]) end end print(“Loop ” .. k .. ” done.”) print (“from: ” .. from .. ” up to: ” .. up_to) from = from +200 up_to = up_to + 200 end print(“All done”)

  • Then, type in ]]– (two closing square brackets and two dashes) and press enter.
  • Wait for the light blue text to appear. Wait until it says “All done”.

Step 4: Repeat the command

  • Input the command from step 2 again. It should just show “[ ]”.
  • If it shows “[ ]”, the delay should be fixed.

Keep in mind that this is just a temporary fix and Larian is aware of the issue and may release a patch to fix it in the future.

4. Disable Mods

If you’re using mods, try disabling them to see if they are causing the lag.

Some mods can cause performance issues, especially if they are not optimized for the game’s latest version.

5. Disable HDR

Disabling HDR can help improve the game’s performance and reduce lag in Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 3, as some players have reported that HDR can cause issues.

Here’s how to disable HDR:

  • From the PS5’s main menu, select “Settings”.
  • Select “Screen and Video”.
  • Select “Video Output”.
  • Turn off “HDR” and “Deep Color Output” by toggling the switches to the left.
  • Restart the game and check if the lag issue has been resolved.

6. Verify Game Files

Verifying game files can help fix any corrupted files that may be causing the lag, which is a common cause of performance issues in games. To verify game files:

On PC:

  • Open the game’s platform and find Baldur’s Gate 3 in your library.
  • Right-click on the game and select “Properties”.
  • Select the “Local Files” tab and click on “Verify Integrity of Game Files…”.
  • Wait for the verification process to complete.
  • Launch the game and check if the lag issue has been resolved.

On PS5:

  • Go to “Settings” and select “Storage”.
  • Find Baldur’s Gate 3 in your list of games and press the “Options” button.
  • Select “Check for Update” and wait for the update check to complete.
  • If an update is available, download and install it.
  • Launch the game and check if the lag issue has been resolved.

Clearing the cache files can help improve the game’s performance by freeing up resources. To clear cache files:

On PC:

  • Close Baldur’s Gate 3.
  • Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
  • Type %LocalAppData% in the box and press Enter.
  • Navigate to the Larian Studios folder.
  • Delete the Baldur’s Gate 3 folder.
  • Restart your computer and launch the game again.

On PS5:

  • Close Baldur’s Gate 3.
  • From the PS5 main menu, select Settings.
  • Select Storage.
  • Select Console Storage.
  • Select Games and Apps.
  • Find Baldur’s Gate 3, highlight it and press the Options button on your controller.
  • Select Delete.
  • Restart your PS5 and launch the game again.

8. Reinstall Baldur’s Gate 3

  • Uninstall the game from your PS5 or PC.
  • Reinstall the game from the store or disc.
