The BIS full form is the Bureau of Indian Standards.

According to sections of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act of 2016, the central government has categorized a few products in mandatory certification. 

Indeed, the Bureau of Indian standards scheme is voluntary; however, a few products are placed in the mandatory compulsion category for BIS certification.

Necessary Requisites To Apply For A BIS License As A Manufacturer

To apply for the Bureau of Indian Standards license, the central government has made it essential for the manufacturers to fulfill a few requisite conditions. 

The manufacturer has to fulfill the following conditions: 

  • The manufacturer must have a manufacturing infrastructure.
  • The BIS license applicator must have substantial control over the process of manufacturing and testing the product. 
  • The product for which the manufacturer is applying the license must be of the utmost quality. 
  • The manufacturer applying for the license must adhere to all necessary conditionals as specified in the ISS. 

Process Of Obtaining The Bureau Of Indian Standards License

The proper method for applying for the grant of Bureau of Indian standards in India is as follows: 

  • Firstly, the applicant must apply for the BIS license by providing a few necessary documents to the appropriate BIS authority with an application for certification. 
  • Secondly, the domestic manufacturer is required to test the products from a lab that is BIS approved. 
  • Thirdly, the manufacturer is necessarily required to submit the test reports to the appropriate authority of BIS. 
  • In this stage, the BIS authority will verify the test reports. If it is satisfactory for the licensing officer, then they will move the license application forward. 
  • In the next step, an officer from the BIS department will come to the factory premises for inspection. The officer will suspect the conditions of hygiene, equipment, and other conditions in the factory premises. 
  • If the officer is satisfied with all the conditions, they will grant the BIS certification for the product. A grant from the BIS authority can be received within 30 days by following a proper procedure.
